Teaching Experience

My Position as a Classroom Teacher!

I am a Year One Teacher at a South Western Primary School. This school is equipment with smartboards and four PC fin each classroom. Being able to work in a school with this technology is fantastic and i seem to use it more and more each day.

Here is a picture of my classroom. As you can see, the smartboard has taken the position on the convential whiteboard.

This unit has assisted me in understanding the resources available online. I have been able to show my class some ebooks and they love it!! I use my smartboard in mathematics, guided reading groups, shared text and religion!

Advantages:

-Time effective.

-All mind maps or discussions had by class are saved and can be revisited in the next lesson.

-Interactive.

-Engaging and exciting.

-Fantastic learning tool.

-Can be used across all Key Learning Areas and classroom management ideas.

Using my smartboard to record table points. The tables are named after animals and i found icons that move. The kids love it!

Using my smartboard for Mathematics- 2D Shapes and Division

Using my smartboard for phonics. Each morning we look at the sound of the week and complete a notebook activity that relate! They love it.

Disadvantages:

-Light bulb blows. The smartboard is out of use for two weeks, and all lessons planned in that time have to be postponed.

Since beginning this position at the start of term three i have used the following smartboard site to assist with my teaching development and programming. As you can see I love my smartboard and i believe that it is the way of the future!

Hi Bel, me again. Why is the smart board out for 2 weeks for a bulb? Do they go regularly? Sounds like quite a disruption if this happens. I guess a perfect example of having a plan B, as with using any technology in the classroom!

    Hi Bel,

I love this page and particularly how you have included photos of how you use your smartbaord in the classroom. I have not had much experience with smartboards in the schools I have been to so far as they have only started to get them but I can see how they are a fantastic learning tool and I will definately want to use them in my teaching in the future.

Hey mic, the warranties for smartboard bulbs begin say soon as they are purhased. So the school only orders them when the bulb finally blows. It take over two weeks for them to arrive.

    Hi Bel,
Its great to see how effective and how useful an interactive smartboard can be. Whilst casual teaching the other week the year6 students put on a radio show for my class and as part of their radio show they used the interactive smartboard to show the video clips of the songs rather than just playing them through a stereo.
I particularly like how you listed the advantages and disadvantages of the interactive smartboard. So often we see the technology and when it works great we can only see the positives and its not until something goes wrong that we are able to identify the negatives.

I love the smartboard I beleive its the best invention in education so far, there is so much you can do with it1 I also admire theCows ( computers on wheels), I used them recently with a year 6 class very convenient and fantastic for storage. I always use th smartboard when casual teaching as there are sooo man interactional activities that can be done, which children remember for the rest of their lives.’

Well done Bel, thanks for sharing your experiences

    Hey Karina
I know the smartboard is fantastic! I have just created my science and technology and Text Type Program and i have a smartboard activity for nearly every lesson. From this unit and my time in school it is amazing to see how many interactive sites their are for us to use!!!
