Reflection on the Unit
I can not believe that I almost finished the twelve course.
That the start of the semester, i was so scared and nervous about working on Macs and how i feel as though i have learnt soooo much about the programs of Macs. I believe that by doing this course, i have pushed myself to experience new things and think outside the square.
Before this unit, i was afraid of the internet and computers in general and tried to stay clear of them at all cost. However, now i find myself using my smartboard in almost all aspects of the classroom, i am informing staff at my school of programs that can be used to enhance their teaching like ebooks and simulation games. I feel confident and excited about where ICT is heading and can not wait to incorporate more IT activities in the classroom.
This course, i believe should be completed by all beginning teachers as it provides you with the experiences needed to teach using ICT. With the amount of technology used in schools, this course breaks down fears and uncertainities regarding computers. It also provides beginning teachers will knowledge on both computers- MACS and PCS. This is fantastic as different schools have different computers and you never know where you are going to teach.
At the start of the unit i outlined goals that i wanted to reach by the end of the twelve week course. I can not reflect and see whether they have been reached or not.
My goals for this unit were:
1. Become comfortable and confidence with my own understanding of IT.
I totally believe that i have reached this outcome as i am now confident with my understanding of ICT both with Macs and PCS. I can not believe that i feel CONFIDENT now in ICT..I’m extremely proud to say that.
2. Become aware of teaching/learning strategies in which i could implement into my classroom.
After the presentations each week, it has given me many teaching/learning strategies that can be implemented within a classroom using IT. It is easy to incorporate IT within the classroom, I’ve just reaslised that it takes planning and researching before.
3. Become aware of how online sites and programs could assist in the creativity within the classroom.
Again i believe i have achieved this outcome to a degree. With the presentations each week, i have become aware of many online programs and sites that i can incorporate into my teaching. For example, Simulation Games, ebooks, Animoto, Hands on Data and of course my presentation of Digital Documents. I have used ebooks in my teaching and the Year One students loved it!
4. Become excited and engaged in the IT area.
I believe that i have become excited and engaged with ICT mainly because i have become aware of many programs and sites that i could use in my teaching. Also, after implementing ebooks and digital documents into my classroom it has made me extremely excited about what i can do.
After reflecting on my aims, i am happy to see that i have some what achieved my goals set out in week one! Im really proud of myself and all that i have experienced thoughout this unit.
